چکیده
Picture 1. Difusion-weighted image (TR4500, TE105) showed a hyperintense lesion in the left striatum and multiple smal hypointense lesions in the brain stem, the cerebelum, and the thalamus (Picture 1 A-D). Gradient-echo T2*-weighed image (TR540, TE18) demonstrated multiple hypointense lesions in the same areas as the DWI showed multiple hypointense lesions (Picture 1 EH). T2-weighted image (TR5630, TE120) revealed hypointense lesions only in the brain stem and the cerebelum (Picture 1 I-L). □ PICTURES IN CLINICAL MEDICINE □

Silent New Brain Lesions: Innocent Bystander or Guilty Party?
With the advances in magnetic resonance imaging, previously unrecognized small brain lesions, which are mostly asymptomatic, have been increasingly detected. Diffusion-weighted imaging can identify small ischemic strokes, while gradient echo T2* imaging and susceptibility-weighted imaging can reveal tiny hemorrhagic strokes (microbleeds). In this article, we review silent brain lesions appearin...
متن کاملCase Reports: Ischemic Strokes in a Young Woman With Manifestations of Multiple Sclerosis
Background: The current case report aimed at describing the clinical, radiological, and immunological findings of a case of ischemic stroke due to acute thrombosis of the left internal carotid artery and multiple watershed infarctions mimicking Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Clinical Presentation and Intervention: A 24-year-old right-handed Iranian female was initially diagnosed with Multiple Sclero...
متن کاملMagnetic resonance imaging of acute stroke.
In the investigation of ischemic stroke, conventional structural magnetic resonance (MR) techniques (e.g., T1-weighted imaging, T2-weighted imaging, and proton density-weighted imaging) are valuable for the assessment of infarct extent and location beyond the first 12 to 24 hours after onset, and can be combined with MR angiography to noninvasively assess the intracranial and extracranial vascu...
متن کاملDiffusion-weighted MR imaging of the brain.
Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance (MR) imaging provides image contrast that is different from that provided by conventional MR techniques. It is particularly sensitive for detection of acute ischemic stroke and differentiation of acute stroke from other processes that manifest with sudden neurologic deficits. Diffusion-weighted MR imaging also provides adjunctive information for other cereb...
متن کاملCorrelation of apparent diffusion coefficient and computed tomography density in acute ischemic stroke.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Diffusion-weighted MR imaging is very sensitive for the detection of restricted molecular water diffusion in acute ischemic stroke. CT is sensitive to net water uptake in ischemic edema. We compared the decrease in the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) in diffusion-weighted MR imaging with CT density changes to study the correlation between diffusion restriction and wa...
